In 1960, Fender introduced their second electric bass guitar model: the Jazz Bass. With this guitar, Fender hoped to attract a broader customer base than just rock guitarists (as was the case with the Precision Bass). And they succeeded, the comfortable, narrow neck, asymmetrical body and versatile dual pickups were just what bass guitarists had been waiting for. The J-Bass had a fuller and yet clearer sound than the P-Bass, thanks to the greater distance between the two single-coil pickups, making it suitable for a wider range of music types and playing styles. The American Standard Jazz Bass offers all of this and more. This guitar combines the authentic vintage styling and sound with the playability and reliability of a modern American Fender bass guitar.
Modern features of the American Standard Jazz Bass
This edition of the American Standard Jazz Bass is abundantly adorned with modern features that make it sound better and truly delightful to play. The base paint layer is thinner so that the body breathes and resonates better. A massive High Mass Vintage bridge will give your tones more warmth and sustain and the new, 30% lighter, Hipshot tuners will excellently retain the guitar’s tuning and balance. Both the tuners and the bridge still have their classic looks. The neck of the American Standard J-Bass has Posiflex graphite neck support rods that’ll provide it with extra strength and stability, ensuring the right feel in any weather. 20 medium jumbo frets, a flatter 9.5-inch fretboard radius and a silk-finish back of the neck provide you with optimal playing comfort.
Custom Shop pickups for that famous J-Bass sound
Fender has equipped the American Standard Jazz Bass with Custom Shop ’60s pickups. These two alnico 5 single coils provide that classic Jazz Bass sound, but with a dash more output for punchier mids and basses. Both pickups have their own volume control and the master tone will filter out the trebles. You can create a wide range of bass sounds by blending the two volumes, from a fierce bright tone, that’ll cut through the mix excellently, to a warm, sultry jazz sound. All in all, a versatile bass guitar suitable for virtually any genre whether you like to slap, fingerpick, or go all out with a pick.
